Meet Your Teacher!!!

Hello! My name is Ryan Short. I have been the preschool/pre-k teacher for Glenville-Emmons since 2012. Along with this wonderful duty, I am also the Title I teacher for the district. I have a bachelors degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Minnesota State University-Moorhead, along with a masters in Early Childhood Education from Concordia College St. Paul. Every year I look forward to trying new strategies to better myself as a teacher and to provide our students with the best educationally fun experience they can have.

Currently, I live in Glenville with my amazing wife and our three wonderful children. In our spare time (which is getting less as our children get older), we enjoy spending time together being outside, playing games, and just enjoying each other's company. We have grown to love our community and plan to continue raising our family here.

So that there are no surprises to our Glenville-Emmons families, I would like to let everyone know that I am also legally blind. I have a genetic retinal disease called retinitis pigmentosa. The easiest way to explain it is as tunnel vision. I was diagnosed in my mid-teens and it has slowly progressed over time and will continue to progress as time goes by. Plainly put, I can see, with corrective lenses, what I am directly looking at, but I cannot see what is in my peripheral (including above and below). I have adapted over the years and it has not by any means hindered my ability to effectively teach in the classroom. I have had wonderful support in the classroom and from families as well. I welcome any questions from anyone as I am open to helping others understand more.

I am looking forward to another year and all the wonderful learning experiences to come!

Thank you,
Mr. Short
