Hello!

My name is Serena Sorensen.  I am a Special Education Teacher here at Glenville-Emmons School District.  I work at both the Elementary and High School buildings.   I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education with Pre-Primary specialty in May 2009.  I worked as a Head Start pre-school teacher for 2 years.  In 2011, I decided to enroll at Minnesota State University, Moorehead to complete the Special Education licensing courses in Emotional Behavior Disorders and Specific Learning Disabilities, and completed those courses in May 2013.  During this time, I worked at New Dominion School, in Austin, MN, for 2 years,  as a special education teacher.  In July 2014, I was hired to work at the Albert Lea Area Schools, to be one of the special education teachers in the High School Options Program.  I worked there for 5 years before moving to Halverson Elementary.   At Halverson Elementary I was a resource room special education teacher for 4 years. While at Halverson Elementary, I completed course work and obtained a Masters in Special Education with Emotional Behavior emphasis in May 2019.  I joined the Glenville-Emmons School District July 2023.

I have 3 children, Hayden(15), Connor(13), and Olivia(12).  My husband, Ray, is a farmer. We raise beef cattle and corn/bean crops.  When I am not in the classroom, I am out on the farm helping with the cattle or field work, and/or running and doing fun things with my family out in the community.

I am dedicated to help your child to be an independent, responsible, and successful learner.  I look forward to meeting and working with you and your child and helping him/her grow.
